Selfridges in London opened its rooftop garden for the first time since WWII. The party consisted of a roof lake, rowing boats, and a cocktail bar! There is a lifeguard on duty to watch over the 12 boats in the lake. The rooftop is open to the public. We are surprised that The Westminster Council approved the boating license for the roof! Hats of to the people at Selfridges!!
Henry Gordon Selfridge
After the devastating bombing of the department store in 1940 owner H.Gordon Selfridge vowed never to open the gardens again.
In the 1920s and 1930s the roof, with its spectacular views across London, was a place popular for strolling after a shopping trip and was often used for fashion shows.
